JEFF ALTENBURG TO DRIVE NO. 13 FOR WOODHOUSE PERFORMANCE AT WATKINS GLEN
BLAIR, Neb. (June 3, 2007) - Woodhouse Performance announced today Jeff Altenburg will drive the No. 13 Woodhouse Performance Dodge Viper Competition Coupe for Round Five of SPEED World Challenge GT Series Competition at Watkins Glen International Raceway. Altenburg is the fourth different driver to take the wheel of the No. 13 Woodhouse Performance Dodge Viper Competition Coupe this season.
“I am very excited to be running in the GT race this weekend,” Altenburg said. “I have only made a few GT starts, but they haven’t been in really competitive rides. So I am super pumped about running this weekend with an experienced Viper team in a car that has been proven fast by several drivers so far this season.”
Altenburg’s start in the No. 13 Woodhouse Performance Dodge Viper Competition Coupe will be his fourth-career SPEED World Challenge GT start and his first in the division in something other than a BMW. His previous starts in GT came in 2001 and 2002 at Lime Rock Park, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and Road America. His best finish is a 13th, which he posted at Road America in ‘02.
Although he’s never raced one in the GT series, Altenburg is no stranger to the Dodge Viper. He has two-years worth of racing experience in a Viper, competing in the SCCA Club Valvoline Runoffs in a Viper in 1998 and driving a Viper for John Hennessey at Viper Day events in 1999. Perhaps his most notable experience was running a Viper GTSR in the American Le Mans Series in 2001. He drove it to a second-place finish with co-driver Shane Lewis at Portland International Raceway.
The Ellicott City, Md., native drives a MAZDA 6 for Tri Point Motorsports full-time in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car series. So far the 2007 season has been an incredible success for Altenburg, with wins from the pole in the first two races of the year and a third place finish in the third race of the season at Lime Rock Park. He currently sits atop the championship standings, having accumulated 115 points. He leads second-place man in the championship Randy Pobst by 26. Altenburg will continue driving duties in the MAZDA 6 at Watkins Glen while driving for Woodhouse Performance.
Altenburg has a rich history in the SPEED World Challenge series. With 54-career SCCA Pro-Racing starts in six years of competition, he has accumulated an impressive stack of road racing stats: Four wins, four poles, 25 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes.
The 10-time SCCA Solo Champion joins a prestigious list of drivers who have piloted the No. 13 previously this season. NASCAR superstar Kasey Kahne drove the No. 13-turned-No. 9 car to a sixth place finish most recently at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, while team-owner Bob Woodhouse finished eighth one race earlier at Miller Motorsports Park. Woodhouse’s 2006 Touring Car series driver Brian Smith filled the seat for the first two races of the season, finishing ninth at Sebring International Raceway and 25th at Long Beach.
