Blair, NE. (June 21, 2007) –Woodhouse Performance driver Jeff Courtney, who pilots the No. 99 Kenda Tires/ProMPI Dodge Viper in the SPEED World Challenge GT series, will compete in the Grand Am Koni Challenge Series’ EMCO Gears Classic at Mid- Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.
Courtney will race a Porsche 997 in the GS division for Ranger Sports Racing with former SPEED World Challenge Touring Car teammate Freddy Baker of Bedford, Ohio, as co-driver. Courtney and Baker will pilot the No. 89 Porsche 997, with support from Courtney’s Woodhouse Performance World Challenge sponsor Kenda Tires and Freddy Baker’s Audi and Porsche dealerships.
Courtney says he’s looking forward to racing in the Koni Challenge series this weekend because his purpose is two-fold: to have fun and get track time in preparation for his SPEED World Challenge GT race there July 22.
“Racing at Mid-Ohio this weekend is one of those things I wanted to do just for fun and also to gain some experience for our upcoming World Challenge race,” Courtney said. “Freddy [Baker] and I have been saying that we need to run a race together and it’s great to get to do that with Fraser [Wellon] and Barry [Ellis] who I used to run with in the Panoz series. I’m also able to get additional track time to prepare for the World Challenge GT race here. Kenda Tires will be bringing lots of guests to that race, so I know the additional seat time can only help us to put on a good showing for them in July.”
Courtney has made multiple starts in the Grand Am Koni Challenge series in years past. Co-driver Baker has also made multiple starts in the series, having posted several wins and competed in the 24 hours of Daytona on multiple occasions.
Ranger Sports Racing has registered two Porsche 997s for the EMCO Gears Classic weekend at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, with drivers Fraser Wellon of Mississauga, Ontario, and Barry Ellis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in the No. 88 and Courtney and Baker in the No. 89.
Woodhouse Performance driver Courtney will take the wheel for Round Seven of Koni Challenge GS Racing at 2:15 p.m. EST Saturday, hoping to compete for a win and learn as much as he can to help him in the No. 99 Kenda Tires/ProMPI Dodge Viper at Mid-Ohio July 22.
